General Information

Description: Newbridge Academy is committed to the development of the child’s mind, body and spirit through the integration of education and sport”

Newbridge Academy is dedicated to preparing highly motivated students through a comprehensive, customized educational program, which emphasizes both academics and athletics.

Under the guidance of an exemplary faculty of educators, Newbridge Academy provides students with opportunities to achieve their full potential through programs that engage, stimulate and nurture.

VISION

“At Newbridge Academy we believe that tomorrow’s graduate needs to be imaginative and creative thinkers, cooperative team players, competent technology users/managers, and most importantly, life-long learners.”

To be a life long learner considerable emphasis is placed on teaching students how to learn for themselves, independently. While behavioural conformity and subject knowledge acquisition are necessary and desirable, Newbridge Academy’s focus is on advancing the student’s social development to higher levels.

Specifically, we are focused on establishing a learning community based on behavioural democracy where students acquire leadership and learning skills that ensure every student knows how to set their sights on their goals and succeed in achieving them.

Currently offering Grades Primary to Ten, our vision is for Newbridge Academy to be the premier democratic learning community for Grades Primary to Twelve (P-12) in Atlantic Canada. To do this our curriculum encapsulates 100% of Nova Scotia’s Department of Education discrete learning outcomes, but we delivering it through our educational model enriched with many key interpersonal skills that students need to meet tomorrow’s economic, social, environmental, and political challenges in their work place. Bottomline, though, and most importantly, Newbridge students want to come to school!

Application Requirements: GENERAL Many parents may feel that their student needs to have a particular learning style, or be a strong independent learner to succeed at private school. At Newbridge Academy our academic program follows an individualized study model that ensures that we are teaching each student according to their particular learning style. In addition, we do not expect students to come to Newbridge with a sense of independent responsibility for their learning or with some high level of academic confidence. Developing these traits in our students is part of our curriculum’s learning objectives. APPLICATION FORM/PACKAGE The key step in beginning the admissions process is to complete an Application Form. Depending on the accompanying information, students are interviewed by Newbridge Academy staff and/or teacher to understand the learning style, behavioural trends, and the student’s academic and athletic goals. The Application Form can be downloaded from our website, completed on-line, or mailed/emailed to you by contacting Newbridge and requesting an information and admissions package to be forwarded to you. ASSESSMENT INTERVIEW On receipt of the completed application form, Newbridge Academy will contact you to arrange an assessment interview. The assessment interview includes a review of current report card or school transcript, a short reading and comprehension assessment, a few math and general knowledge questions that are Grade level appropriate, and a student parent interview focused on goals, interests, and preferences. There is a non-refundable charge of $75.00 for the Assessment Interview which represents the total cost of the Application process. ENROLLMENT OFFER/PACKAGE Depending on the time of year, and the number of available seats within each class, Newbridge Academy will notify parents of their initial acceptance offer in writing that will include a specific time limit to complete enrollment documentation. In general, enrollment requires a non-refundable tuition deposit of $500 to hold the seat in the class until the academic program commences. Parents should understand that once a student starts a program, tuition and program fees are non-refundable. Newbridge Academy’s policy is to require an enrollment contract to be signed prior to the start of a program.
