Dogwood Scholarship Winners

Shawnigan Lake School is proud to congratulate two students from Lonsdale's House who were recently awarded the Dogwood District Scholarship presented by the BC Ministry of Education. The Dogwood Scholarships are awarded annually to BC students demonstrating superior achievement in any area of fine arts, leadership, athletics, music, applied skills and languages.

Ethan received accolades in the classical music category for his talent on the violin, which he demonstrated for the adjudicators with pieces by Bach and Tchaikovsky during his fifteen minute performance. A passionate musician, Ethan has been playing since grade one and hopes to continue his musical career in the Orchestra at the University of British Columbia, where he will be investing his Dogwood award in a Commerce Degree this fall.

Caleb earned his Dogwood recognition in the individual sports accomplishments category for his decorated career as a rower. On the showcase evening, Caleb met with an adjudicator for a 15 minute interview, which extended to 25 minutes as the official delved into Caleb's captivating rowing history. The top highlight from Caleb's list of over 100 rowing victories is his gold medal finish in the junior single event at the 2010 Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. To pursue his dream of eventually making an Olympic team and to facilitate his training while juggling a full course-load, Caleb plans to invest his Dogwood Scholarship in his first term at Western University next year, which is one of Canada's premier rowing universities.
