Junior Field Hockey Wins ISA

The Shawnigan Junior A Field Hockey team continued their streak of success, winning the ISA tournament this past weekend.

The tournament opened with Shawnigan taking on their cross-town rivals, Brentwood. The Brentwood team fought hard, determined to avenge their previous losses. Playing well-structured hockey, Shawnigan moved the ball around the pitch with pace and purpose creating some brilliant attacking play. The first goal, in particular, was a superb deflection by Sierra F. off the right post. The Shawnigan girls went on to win the match 4-0.

The second game versus Collingwood proved to be a physical affair with both teams fighting for every ball. Shelby D. made some dangerous runs down the left wing and Ella F. and Shelby I. connected for some well-timed give-and-goes down the right side of the field. The defence held strong, and Shawnigan came out 2-0 victors.

The final versus Crofton House was an exciting display of hockey by both teams. While Shawnigan was skillful in possession through the midfield, Crofton House showed they were a disciplined team with excellent tackling and counter-attack abilities. Shawnigan was sharp defensively and created numerous scoring opportunities – free play and penalty corners. With five seconds left in regulation play, the girls were finally rewarded with a goal by Shelby D. Before the ball was even back to the halfway line, the umpire blew his whistle and the team charged the field to celebrate. It was a thrilling finish to an excellent tournament!
