Shawnigan math scores add up again!

The 2012 Canadian Mathematics Competition results for the Pascal, Cayley, and Fermat math contests have been officially announced, and Shawnigan Lake School students have earned top honours again.

Shawnigan students won the Zone Championship Certificates in both the Cayley and Fermat Contest while securing a close second in the Pascal Contest.

Leading the way in results is Grade 11 Shawnigan student Jae Joon L. writing the Fermat test. Jae Joon received both provincial and national recognition for placing at the 99th percentile. Lee's score of 144 out of 150 total marks ranks him near the top of the national and provincial Fermat Honour Rolls and is the 3rd highest score obtained in all of Canada.

Grade 8 student Kevin M. and grade 11 student Alex C. also scored highly at the national and provincial level. Although only in grade 8, Kevin chose to write the grade 9 Pascal contest and his results put him at the 98th percentile, placing him on both the provincial and Canadian Honour Rolls. Likewise, Alex's name also appears on the BC and Canadian Honour Rolls for his strong scores on the Fermat Contest that also landed him at the 98th percentile. Their top scores earned both students Contest Medals from The Centre of Education in Mathematics and Computing for their excellent results.

Other Shawnigan students recognized at the provincial level for their contest scores are Grade 11 student Kevin M. at the 95th percentile on the Fermat test and Grade 10 students Hwi Eun B. and Chris Z., who respectively earned 97th and 98nd percentile scores on the Cayley Contest followed closely by Kirby M. and Jordan F. at the 96th percentile. All students earned places on the BC Honour Roll.
